Detroit Fanfare

The Blatant Geekery girls have returned from another exciting con weekend! It took me a couple days to recover, as I think I got a touch of the con-crud from shaking hands and taking pictures, but now I'm back trying to get things done and ready to recap our experience at Detroit Fanfare. This was a different experience for the both of us.  Normally, Graphics Girl keeps an eye on me to make sure my wig isn't cockeyed or that I don't have lipstick on my teeth.  This time I needed her painting/drawing expertise. I was working the con with Josh Blaylock from Devil's Due as his character, Mercy Sparx. Mercy is covered in tatts when in her earthly form, but her other form is...well...a devil-girl. Painting the tattoos proved to be a longer process than either of us thought. We woke up around 4am on Saturday to get ready and be out the door by 6. I think we finally left at 7:30. Oops. We had a difficult time figuring out the best way to get the tattoos on my chest and ev

I yam what I yam!

It's Throwback Thursday, and for no particular reason, today's throwback is Popeye. I really don't know why I loved this movie so much, but it brings back great memories and even now I can watch this with my kids. Popeye stars Robin Williams as the spinach-eating sailor and Shelley Duvall plays the beautiful Olive Oyl.  While searching for his Pappy, popeye arrives in a seaside town and becomes a reluctant hero to the townspeople. Of course, he also has to save his love Olive Oyl from Bluto. Sounds like the cartoon, doesn't it? Not only does it play out like the old cartoons, but it really looks like the cartoon. I absolutely love the visuals and Robin Williams singing, "I yam what I yam" Preview on Amazon

Wouldn't You Think I'm The Girl, The Girl Who Has Everything

I was fortunate enough to grow up during the "Disney Renaissance". During this period we saw films like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King. BUT my very favorite of all the movies that came out during this time was The Little Mermaid. I received the movie for my sixth birthday and that was one of my favorite presents. Some of my fondest memories include reenacting scenes from the movie with my friends. I still know every word to every song, and on occasion, like to see if I can get my hair to look like this  in the bathtub. ---> Don't judge me. She had fabulous hair. Seriously...what what woman has not wanted that sexy, red hair? LOVE. Today, you can find The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition at your local store. I'm not sure why they chose to release it now instead of next year, which would have marked the 25th anniversary, but you won't catch me complaining. I'm more than happy to have this available on Blu-Ray. I hear that the digital enhanc

Quick Thursday Update

Sorry folks, we're totally behind today. Songbird is frantically sewing her Halloween costume and also finishing a couple costumes for a con in Detroit at the end of the month.  I'm working on small items for mine (as well as my boy's costumes).  Craft-a-polooza! I don't have a throwback, but I wanna remind you all of the Once Upon a Time in Wonderland premiere tonight! If you see this late, don't worry, you can catch it ABC online or by downloading the app. I'm excited to see another strong female lead on TV. This isn't the original movie Alice... I'll be setting the DVR to catch Glee's goodbye to Finn. :( Just watching the commercial brings a tear to my eye. Happy news update? Songbird and I were able to get a hotel room for DragonCon 2014!!! Not the easiest ticket in town, but after almost an hour, WE GOT ONE! Look out Atlanta, we'll see you August 2014! Later peeps! ~Graphics Girl

Fangirl Favorite-For the Cons

So far, I only have two conventions under my belt and both times I've carried around my camera as well as my phone. Not only do I carry the camera, but I have a couple different lenses in the bag. I have a telephoto that works great when I catch a glimpse of a celeb or cosplayer across the show floor. That lens doesn't work so well when I'm taking Cosplay photos of Songbird and her fans. But my iPhone takes such great pictures, too! And I can email them or add them to Facebook on the fly.  Sometimes though, I just wish I didn't have to carry so much. Or stop and switch lenses cause I wanna shoot something up close. Maybe the solution could be a telephoto for my phone??? Photojojo (sign up for their newsletter for photo tips, news and projects in the photo world) has a store for all kinds of camera and phone accessories. Direct to store link is here , but for direct product links, you can click on the photos below. This solution is a 4 lens package that

This installment of Throwback Thursday means so much to me. It is the 75th Anniversary for the film The Wizard of Oz. Everything Ozian has been an obsession of mine since I was probably about 2 years old. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it was my 4th birthday that I received the 50th Anniversary copy on VHS. I'm surprised that that copy lasted until I had my own DVD player. After that, I purchased every available version. I have endless memorabilia, including three different Dorothy dresses and two pairs of ruby slippers. I was beyond blessed to be able to play the role of Dorothy twice and I celebrate the anniversary in my own way every year. This year, since it's a big number, the world is celebrating with me, and I couldn't be happier!   The first big part of the celebration is that Wizard of Oz was back in theatres. I was able to watch it last week and the experience was surreal to say the very least. I never thought I'd have the opportunity to see this mo

Wizard World Mid Ohio Coverage

Graphics Girl and I went to Mid Ohio Comic Con on the 20th-22nd.  Though it's one of the smaller Wizard World conventions, there was plenty to see and do. And our PSA....Folks, if Wizard World comes to a town near you...BUY YOURSELF A TICKET AND GO! FRIDAY, MEETING NEW PEOPLE On Friday we checked out a lot of the vendors and went to some panels.  We caught the Cosplay panel that day and ended up getting to know Eric "The Smoke" Moran, Michael Knightmage Wilson and Damian Beurer.  They are all great cosplayers and all great guys in general. Michael Knightmage Wilson Eric "The Smoke" Moran That evening, we didn't really have a place to stay, so after the convention was over, we found a quite corner and sat on the phone with Travelocity for an hour. YAY!  The first two times I booked a room online, it went ahead and took my money, but when I finally got to the confirmation part of booking, the site told me that the room had been sold.  That was
