Joss, Ichabod and Dracula Walk Into a Bar...

So, I guess summer is officially over. :(  It's now September...the kids are back in school, football has begun and along with that, the new fall TV season. YAY! I have some shows that I'm really excited for, but I decided that I'd better do some research to see what else is coming. I went right to EW.com and TVGuide.com to do my reading. Keep in mind, this is not ALL the new shows...just shows that I'll be trying out. And it looks like I better get my DVR ready!

NEW SHOWS
  • Marvel's Agents of SHIELDTuesday 8/7c on ABC  I think it's fair to say that fans of Joss Whedon have been waiting very impatiently for this show. While we've had some great movies to satisfy our appetite, there's nothing quite like Joss on a TV Series. This man has a knack for telling a story in such a unique way with a snarky voice, I can't wait to see what he does with these characters, the Marvel Universe, and we get to see J. August Richards and Clark Gregg AGAIN! Huzzah!  Good news for those of you who can never watch shows when they are ON, ABC has an app that you can watch on your mobile device or you can watch online on watchabc.go.com If you're anything like me, you'll wish all the networks would get on board with this! Here's a preview from ABC. If you don't get excited by this promo, you're dead inside. ;)
  • The Crazy Ones- Thursday 9/8c on CBS  I, for one, will be watching this hoping it sticks for Sarah Michele Gellar. She's acting alongside ROBIN WILLIAMS this time. Please, TV gods, let this be a great show. A father/daughter run Ad Agency created by David E. Kelly with Williams playing the "kooky" one (TV Guide word). TV Guide's Editors pick this as a show to watch.
  • Once Upon a Time in Wonderland-Thursday 8/7c on ABC As a fan of Once Upon a Time, I don't even have to watch this to love it. Quick synopsis, Alice is in an asylum after people learn about her "trip" to Wonderland. But, wait for it, there's a love story in there too. ABC has a few teasers up including this one that will give you a bit more background.
  • Sleepy Hollow-Monday 9/8c on FOX I don't know...maybe it's weird, but I'm going to watch this and see what happens. It has me intrigued. Doesn't hurt that the createors, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci; who, with JJ Abrams, were the creators of Fringe and writers of Transformers and Star Trek. Icabod Crane has woken up after 250 years to chase after the Headless Horseman in the present! And for my lady friends... Tom Mison(Ichabod) is British and pretty handsome.
  • Dracula-Friday 10/9c on NBC This girl is a sucker for Vampire shows, so I'm in on this one. Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Dracula in Victorian London?! Nuff said. Oh, and it's from the producers of Downton Abbey. Have you been convinced? I'm looking forward to see how they retell his story. It sounds like NBC is having a "Friday Fright Night" with Dracula showing right after their "veteran" show, Grimm. Good news folks! Looks like NBC has full episodes online as well.
Other shows that I can't NOT mention....Almost Human-FOX, The Blacklist-NBC, Brooklyn Nine-Nine-FOX, Michael J. Fox Show-NBC. Keep watching for a quick write-up on those before we go over what's COMING BACK this fall!

Thundercats, HOOOOOOO!

I miss Thundercats. That was a quality Saturday morning cartoon. It ran from 1985-1989. Yes, that hit me at ages 1-5, but I enjoyed watching it then and reruns later on. My brother had some pretty sweet Lion-o and Snarf figurines. The occupants of Thundera evacuate before the planet and all but one of the escape ships were destroyed. The Thundercats were all that remained and they set a course for Third Earth where they crash. With the help of his "Sword of Omens", Lion-o gives the Thundercats a chance against Mumm-Ra and the evil mutants. This cartoon was so freaking cool that it has been referenced in all sorts of pop culture avenues. The Band Reliant K has a song called I'm Lion-o , which is such a fun song to jam to. If you were a fan of Homestar Runner and Strong Bad Emails, Thundercats is referenced in Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Episode 5: 8 Bit Is Enough . The series was rebooted in 2011 and was a combination of anime and western ani...

Wouldn't You Think I'm The Girl, The Girl Who Has Everything

I was fortunate enough to grow up during the "Disney Renaissance". During this period we saw films like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King. BUT my very favorite of all the movies that came out during this time was The Little Mermaid. I received the movie for my sixth birthday and that was one of my favorite presents. Some of my fondest memories include reenacting scenes from the movie with my friends. I still know every word to every song, and on occasion, like to see if I can get my hair to look like this  in the bathtub. ---> Don't judge me. She had fabulous hair. Seriously...what what woman has not wanted that sexy, red hair? LOVE. Today, you can find The Little Mermaid Diamond Edition at your local store. I'm not sure why they chose to release it now instead of next year, which would have marked the 25th anniversary, but you won't catch me complaining. I'm more than happy to have this available on Blu-Ray. I hear that the digital enhanc...

It's Throwback Thursday Time!

This week for Throwback Thursday, I'm taking you to camp...Space Camp. I grew up watching this movie and I love rewatching it every once in a while just to reminisce.  Since I only ever went to church camp, it's kind of fun to see a bunch of nerdy kids getting to go to camp together. The movie never really got great reviews. In fact, they usually stayed around the area of about 40-50% approval. I think part of that had to do with the Challenger space shuttle catastrophe of 1986. Unfortunately, the tragedy didn't end as well as the movie. The release date was pushed back several months due to that, but even when released, the public didn't respond well to the reminder of the events. All things considered, I think it's still a great geek movie. Lea Thompson, Kelly Preston, Joaquin Phoenix (then known as Leaf) Kate Capshaw, Tom Skerrit, Tate Donovan and Larry B. Scott are the lead characters in this movie. Andie, a NASA astronaut who has never actually been in spac...
