FFF-The Tech Issue

So I had planned my Friday Favorite a few days ago....and I still will share it with you sometime...but not today. Something beautiful showed up in my In Box this morning and I fell in love. It went right to my "DREAM" wishlist. The Cintiq Companion Hybrid   As a graphic designer, I'm pretty much on the computer all the time. A couple years ago, I got a Wacom Tablet at work...this led to me getting one for home use. I kinda love them. Instead of your hand being in a claw all day with a mouse, your hand is holding a pen. Which, to me, is much more natural. This makes using the pen and brush tool in Adobe Software (like Photoshop) so much easier. Unlike some of Wacom's other models, Cintiq allows you to make changes right on your screen. The difference with the "Companion Hybrid" is that it allows you to work untethered. It's basically a tablet. Here's a bit of the Overview directly from Wacom's site. The Cintiq Companion Hybrid

It's Throwback Thursday Time!

This week for Throwback Thursday, I'm taking you to camp...Space Camp. I grew up watching this movie and I love rewatching it every once in a while just to reminisce.  Since I only ever went to church camp, it's kind of fun to see a bunch of nerdy kids getting to go to camp together. The movie never really got great reviews. In fact, they usually stayed around the area of about 40-50% approval. I think part of that had to do with the Challenger space shuttle catastrophe of 1986. Unfortunately, the tragedy didn't end as well as the movie. The release date was pushed back several months due to that, but even when released, the public didn't respond well to the reminder of the events. All things considered, I think it's still a great geek movie. Lea Thompson, Kelly Preston, Joaquin Phoenix (then known as Leaf) Kate Capshaw, Tom Skerrit, Tate Donovan and Larry B. Scott are the lead characters in this movie. Andie, a NASA astronaut who has never actually been in spac

Throwback Thursday

You know, I think I might need some help coming up with Throwbacks. While I still have some ideas buried deep in my brain....I doubt I'll be able to keep this up forever. I think it's fun coming up with something that might not be well known to everyone, but today's throwback should be known by every child of the 80s. (At least I really hope so.) I'm not sure if my throwback is Sean Astin or Goonies, but tell me you remember this movie! It was a silly, dangerous adventure, and the kids saved the Goondocks! The reason I'm picking this is....Songbird and I will be taking a short trip to Columbus tomorrow to attend Wizard World Ohio. In the last few days, some new faces have been added to the roster....one being Sean Astin. Really? Mikey? Rudy? Samwise Gamgee??  I have to admit, I had a bit of a crush on Mr. Astin in my youth and I'm sure there will be some giddiness if I get to see him in person. I mean we're called Blatant Geekery for a reaso

TGIFF

It's Friday!  That means we're dishing out some Fangirl Favorites. This week I have two favorites.  They are both products that I've wanted for quite some time and I just got both of them as presents for my birthday.  SQUEE!!  I'm feeling pretty fortunate that I have awesome people in my life who know me so well.   Fangirl Favorite #1 is the  R2D2 Ladies' Tunic Tank .  This is one of the cutest geeky tanks out there!  I'm a big fan of all things Star Wars, so I wanted this tank from the moment I saw it. You can find it through our friends at superherostuff.com or  thinkgeek.com .  Please be aware if you order that the tank is form fitting and runs small.  Some of the descriptions say tank dress, and there are some people that do wear it as a dress, but I wouldn't try it unless you have virtually no torso or are alright with showing off all your assets.  There are also Stormtrooper and Chewbacca tanks available.  I may just have to wear this t

Throwback Thursday!

Today's Throwback is Weird Science. The 80s had some classic movies and alot of what you'll remember is from John Hughes. Pretty In Pink, and Some Kind of Wonderful? Those romantic comedies? Weird Science isn't that. "They went from zeros to heros in one fantastic weekend" The movie stars Anthony Michael Hall and  Ilan Mitchell-Smith as "nerdy" friends, Gary and Wyatt. Tired of dealing with the typical teenage social issues for years, they decide to create the perfect woman who they hope can change their social standing ( Can't Buy Me Love anyone?) When she appears in the flesh, the real fun begins. Lisa (Kelly LeBrock) becomes their genie in a bottle and can get them anything they need. Cool clothes, fake IDs, a  Porsche. When they show up with her at the mall, the cool guys from school (ENTER, RDJ!) can't believe what they're seeing. Lisa makes them look the cool guys and against their better judgement, plans a party which fi

Fall Preview-Part 2

Time for Part Two of my Fall Preview! I think there might just be something for everyone in this batch. The only thing that's missing is the Reality TV. Sorry, can't help you there. Almost Human - Monday 8/7c on FOX For those of you who loved Fringe(and JJ Abrams), this show might be right up your alley. Karl Urban (Star Trek, Judge Dredd) plays a LAPD detective 35 years in the future. While on duty, he loses his partner and his leg.  After two years he returns to work to learn his new partner is an android. Urban's character, John struggles with this new reality since he believes they are the reason for the loss of his former partner. I've watched a couple videos for this show and I'm starting to get really excited to see the Pilot! The Blacklist - Monday 10/9c on NBC  Being compared to Silence of the Lambs, this new drama on NBC stars James Spader as the convicted criminal who agrees to lead the FBI to "Blacklist" criminals only if he can work

Fangirl Friday and a Special Message

I'm skipping our Throwback this week and getting a bit of an early start on our Friday Favorite. I have to begin by saying "Happy Birthday" to our very own Songbird! I've left her an extra special gift above. My favorite this week was a discovery thanks to the people over at Think Geek . They tweeted an adorable R2D2/C3PO Best Friends necklace that I had to look at. I followed the links to an Etsy store, "RapscallionDesign" . I tell you what, if I hadn't already bought Songbird's gift (from Superherostuff ) I would have bought something here in a second. The shop owner's name is Amy and she's described her stuff as, " Cute, Creepy & Geeky Polymer Clay Jewelry and stickers". I have always been a bit jealous of the people that can craft something so detailed out of polymer clay, and Amy is reeeeallly good at it. OK, so my favorite. It's really hard to pick one thing cause everything is so adorable and geeky, but....I rea

Joss, Ichabod and Dracula Walk Into a Bar...

So, I guess summer is officially over. :(  It's now September...the kids are back in school, football has begun and along with that, the new fall TV season. YAY! I have some shows that I'm really excited for, but I decided that I'd better do some research to see what else is coming. I went right to EW.com and TVGuide.com to do my reading. Keep in mind, this is not ALL the new shows...just shows that I'll be trying out. And it looks like I better get my DVR ready! NEW SHOWS Marvel's Agents of SHIELD -  Tuesday 8/7c on ABC   I think it's fair to say that fans of Joss Whedon have been waiting very impatiently for this show. While we've had some great movies to satisfy our appetite, there's nothing quite like Joss on a TV Series. This man has a knack for telling a story in such a unique way with a snarky voice, I can't wait to see what he does with these characters, the Marvel Universe, and we get to see J. August Richards and Clark Gregg A
