This week's Throwback doesn't go back all that far. It takes us to the days when Avengers was filming in Cleveland. My sister was fortunate to spot Joss Whedon downtown one day, and shortly thereafter, we decided to head to Cleveland to see what we could see.
Most of the filming didn't start until evening, so we got there around 7 or 8pm. Everything was blocked off and there were so many people standing around trying to catch a glimpse of someone famous. Thankfully, most of those people weren't in it for the long haul. Graphics Girl and I ended up sitting there until everyone else had gone and all the drunkards came stumbling out of all the local bars. It was so much fun to see everything happening. We were watching the filming of everything happening outside of the opera house and biergarten. We were able to see a bit of Chris Evans (who was under heavy guard and had to wear a big cape until he was actually shooting), and LOTS of Tom Hiddleston and his body double. I'm fairly certain that was the moment we really fell in love with Tom. He was so friendly, modest and personable. He was always hanging out with his double and going to craft services with him. He had no problem with saying hello to his fans and blowing kisses our way. There were some really cool things happening with stunt guys flying after super power punches and cars being flipped. We even ended up finding one of the warehouses where they were doing a bunch of filming, but it was on serious lock down, so we saw nothing there.
We took her boys back the next day and they seems excited at first, but all the walking and waiting proved to be a bit too much for the young boys...especially when they weren't able to see all the people we had seen the night before. We stayed as long as we were able, but eventually had to drag home a couple of sleeping boys. I was so disappointed that I was unable to audition for the film, but the audition dates were directly in the middle of my two week visit to Colorado. I vowed that I would audition to be an extra for the next superhero movie that was filmed in Cleveland...and I did. Unfortunately, it seems as though there may not be more of the Marvel movies filmed here. I suppose I'll have to do some traveling. :)
