The Wolverine Review

Before I begin with this review, let me start by saying how much I love the character of Wolverine and Hugh Jackman's portrayal of him.  In every X-Men movie, he always delivers a standout performance.  You really don't have a choice but to enjoy yourself while he's on the screen.  I've read many reviews in which Hugh Jackman is compared to Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man series.  It's often difficult to see where the actor ends and the character begins.  I'm a sucker for the combination of bada**ery and snarky comments.  (Yes, I'm editing because I don't swear. Don't judge me.) That being said, I really could not get into this film.  Let me explain. The story begins some time after where we left off with The Last Stand .  Logan has become quite the mountain man, trying to escape a world of violence, and is still being haunted by the death of Jean Grey.  His combative personality gets him into a fight with some relatively barbaric local hunter

First Cosplay Photo Shoot - Black Cat

I finally had my first cosplay photo shoot last evening.  Let me just say, I absolutely love dressing up and acting silly, but when a camera is involved I freeze.  Thankfully, I had a friend taking my photos who is just as goofy as I am.  Nothing quite like hearing, "Turn your boobs toward the light" to make you lose your serious face and start giggling.  Despite running into some pretty heavy rainfall, we were able to get some decent pictures at the end of the evening.  I'm still waiting to see them, but I was able to get one shot that didn't really require editing.  I asked if she could send one over since Chicago Comic Con is having a cosplay contest.  I thought it was worth a shot, even though I'd be a last minute entry. So, here's my first official cosplay photo.  I hope you like it!  Please click on the photo below, vote for me, and share with your friends or followers!  If I can win this thing, I have a chance to meet THE Stan Lee or Norman Reedus.  H

Friday's Fangirl Favorites

It's time for Friday's Fangirl Favorites! We'll be featuring different things that are on our radar. Things we want, wish we had, or things think are AWE-SOME.  My fangirl favorite for this week is Forever 21 . Why?? They have some really fun things for geeks right now.  I love these pieces cause they're geeky without screaming "GEEK". There are two lightning bolt necklaces and a cuff that will make you feel like an Amazon princess. What's great is, I could buy them all with a $20! If you're feeling like really letting your geek show, they've also got some comic book " POW" earrings and an excellent Han Solo muscle tee ! Cosplay for Noobs. (Like me)

Wikipedia says Cosplay is  short for "costume play", an activity in which participants wear  costumes  and  accessories  to represent a specific  character  or idea from a work of fiction. Cosplayers often interact to create a  subculture  centered on  role play . A broader use of the term  cosplay  applies to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context. *********************************************************************************************************** Songbird has dressed up since she was tiny, only to eventually take up theatre. It was no surprise for us to see her in her first superhero costume a couple of years ago. I was aware that there was a world for those who dress up...but didn't really KNOW about it. So, after spending an entire Saturday together working on her costume for Chicago...it occurred to me how perfect it would be if we CONTINUED to do this together. With my art background, her acting tal

Comic-Con Has Begun!

Hello there peeps! It HAS begun. What, you ask? Comic-Con International, San Diego!  Only THE event of the year for geeks.  Only a fraction of the wonders of Comic-Con...lycra-clad cosplayers, comic-book artists, and the Hollywood upper crust promoting all the movies you can't wait to see.  For the official origins of the event, follow this link . Unfortunately, we're not there, but if you keep an eye on our Twitter, we'll do our best to update you with just some of the many highlights.  We've already retweeted from Her Universe and shared the pictures of the Quarter Quell tributes!  The fun has just begun folks. For even more info from the show, download the official app!  However, you might find that it makes you more sad for yourself that you're not there.  I really want to attend the Adobe Photoshop Insights from the Photoshop Team and Pro Artists seminar!  (Think I can still make it?) Later. GraphicsGirl

"Trending" Geeks

I really hate that being "geeky" is the new trend. Graphics Girl and I went out today to get a couple new things in preparation for Chicago Comic Con.  It seems like everyone and their mother wants to be a geek.  (Okay, maybe not their mothers, but you know what I mean.)  This seriously bothers me.  It's not that I don't want people to jump on the bandwagon...by all means, join the party.  But seriously folks, just because you slap on a pair of "nerd" glasses doesn't make you a geek.  Being a geek is a way of life.  Most of us were shunned our whole lives and didn't really have any place to fit.  We often hid the things that we loved the most in order to avoid mockery.  I know that in my case, I was a lot happier once I started caring less about whether or not people thought I was stupid and told everyone outright.  For some reason, when you're insanely passionate about something, people end up wanting to hear more about it no matter what the t

Pacific Rim Review

A's thoughts on PR- Rated PG-13   Running time 2 hours and 11 minutes Let's start with a general synopsis of the movie...When monstrous creatures (Kaiju) start emerging from the sea, the people of earth band together to form enormous robots called Jaegers in order to fight back.  Each robot is piloted by two humans whose minds are linked together by a neural bridge.  Facing the mounting apocalypse, a small but unlikely group of pilots are gathered together to close the rift and (hopefully) save the world. A fantastic opening prologue sets the scene extremely well, showing just how the rift in the bottom of the Pacific opened a portal to another dimension and allowed the army of alien creatures to come through.  During this prologue, the visual effects are stunning.  I recommend watching it in 3D for this scene alone.  It was breathtaking. I must admit, the acting was sub par in most cases, but that fact wasn't entirely helped by the dialogue.  But let's be hon

Captain's Log, Stardate 41153.7

...I am becoming better acquainted with my new command this Galaxy-class USS Enterprise. I am still somewhat in awe of its size and complexity. As for my crew, we are short in several key positions most notably, a first officer... Actually, I already have a first officer, though she's more accurately a co-captain. My sister Sarah and I are starting this blog so that we can report on all things geeky. I'm very excited about all the different things that we're going to be able to do with this. We will be including our fangirl favorite of the week, convention coverage, movie reviews, geeky crafts (we ARE girls after all), noteworthy cosplay, interviews and much much more! It will be a new adventure for both of us and I hope that we're able to provide information and entertainment for everyone! Since this is just the beginning and things aren't up and running at full speed, I'll just add a couple of notes of things to come. Tomorrow night we'll be watching
